3-Star WR Nate Mccollum Commits to Play Football & Baseball at NC State

Published

on

3-Star 2020 Wide Receiver Nate Mccollum (5’10″/180) took an unofficial visit to NC State today, and it didn’t take him very long thereafter to announce his commitment.

Mccollum earned 5A All-State honors in Georgia last year, and was the 5A Region 4 Offensive Player of the Year. He plays for Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia.

Not only did Mccollum commit to play football at NC State, but he also committed to play baseball for the Wolfpack.

Mccollum plays 2nd base and Outfield, and ProspectsUSA ranks him as the #1 Shortstop in the state of Georgia, and the #39 baseball prospect nationally.

Here’s Perfect Game’s writeup on Mccollum’s baseball skills.

Nate McCollum is a 2020 OF/2B with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from McDonough, GA who attends Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned nicely throughout frame. Elite runner, posted a 6.39 60-yard dash and can impact a game on the bases and defensively out in centerfield. Tracks down fly balls with a quick first step and can cover ground; didn’t work out defensively in this look but performed well in games. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Upper body dominant swing and utilizes a short stride step moving into swing. Stays short to the ball and shows fast hands with plenty of present bat speed. Shows a feel for the barrel and found it well in live action, works the middle and pull side parts of the field and generates nice jump off the barrel when squared. Good student. Named to Junior National Top Prospect List.

Perfect Game

Mccollum chose to run with the Wolfpack over football offers from Tennessee, Syracuse, Michigan St, Kansas, ECU, App St., and others. NC State offered on February 26th.

With the addition of Mccollum, NC State now has 6 verbal commitments in their 2020 recruiting class.
