Quick Injury Report After Day 1 of NC State’s 2018 Fall Camp

Yesterday NC State head coach Dave Doeren spoke with the media after Day 1 of Fall Camp, and he had a few updates on a few relevant, yet minor injuries.

Projected starting defensive tackle Shug Frazier (RS SO) was wearing a yellow jersey yesterday. Frazier was working with the 2’s. He injured his toe last year. They aren’t going to rush him, and are simply sticking to the process to get him back to full speed. Redshirt Freshman Grant Gibson was working with the first string as a result.

Projected starting nickelback Stephen Griffin (RS JR), who sat out last season after transferring in from Tennessee, wasn’t at practice yesterday. He is suffering from a lingering foot injury, and Doeren expects that he could be back out there next week sometime.

Redshirt Junior nickelback Freddie Phillips was also in a yellow jersey yesterday, but he was running with the 1’s due to the absence of Griffin. Phillips is still working his way back from surgery, after tearing his Achilles in the season opener against South Carolina last season.

I think Freddie Phillips tore his Achilles Tendon in Charlotte last year.

Frazier was in a cast/boot type thing at the Spring Game. Makes me think it might have been some type of turf toe issue.
