NC State Only has to Beat Wake Forest Tonight to Advance to ACC Baseball Tournament Semifinals…

It pained me to write the title to this article.

#10 seed Wake Forest (31-25) beat #6 seed Florida State (35-21) 7-4 on Tuesday night, which means the winner of tonight’s game between the Wolfpack and the Demon Deacons will determine who goes to the Semifinals of the 2019 ACC Baseball Tournament from Pool C.

NC State’s (41-15) game on Friday night against Florida State truly doesn’t matter.

The Wolfpack holds a 122-62 overall record against the Deacs in the series, but fell twice up in Winston-Salem in April, including giving up a 7 run lead in one contest.

Wake Forest 1st baseman Bobby Seymour earned ACC Player of the Year honors, and was joined by outfielder Chris Lanzilli on the All-ACC 1st Team.

Oh, if I could count the ways Wake Forest has been the thorn in NC State’s side across all sports.

It’s been 27 years since NC State won their last ACC Baseball Championship (1992), and the Wolfpack have to go through a Wake Forest team they should beat in order to get the monkey off their backs (sound familiar).

In fact, it’s been 27 years since NC State has won a Baseball, Men’s Basketball or Football championship, regular season or tournament. That’s the longest drought out of all 65 Power 5 schools. Northwestern’s drought of 19 years is the 2nd longest drought

With #1 seed Louisville already out, the Wolfpack’s chances are even higher, but first they have to take care of Wake Forest.

Last year in the ACC Baseball Tournament, NC State was ironically the #3 seed, and ended up losing both their games in pool play against #10 UVA (4-2) and #6 FSU (5-2).
