The best punter in NC State history is heading to the NFL draft

Trenton Gill, who is probably the best punter we’ve ever had, just announced he’s heading into the NFL draft.

Do you blame the guy? He led the ACC in average yards per punt two times and put over 30 punts within the 20 this season, leading the conference. Oh, and he was first-team All-ACC.

This was a kid who was initially a walk-on, before earning a scholarship during his sophomore season. He ends up as the 7th Wolfpack player to lead the ACC in average yards per punt. In 2019 he set the NC State record for avearge yards per punt at 47.6.

Sad to see him go, but it’s the right move. Punters never get any press, but this guy had a big role in NC State’s success this season. Good luck, Trenton!
