Savage Wolves just announced that Free Safety Sean Brown will be returning to NC State in 2024.

This announcement comes a day after Savage Wolves announced that the Wolfpack’s other starting Safety, Devan Boykin, will also be returning next season. Considering the fact that there is going to be turnover at the Cornerback position with Aydan White announcing he was entering the Transfer Portal yesterday (still not official what Shyheim Battle is doing), knowing you are returning both starting Safeties is huge.

Heading into 2023, Brown had flashed as a hard hitting Safety in 2022 (primarily on Special Teams), playing 70 snaps as a reserve. There was a lot of buzz around Brown in Fall Camp, but he entered Game 1 as a backup to Jakeen Harris. After Harris went down with a season ending injury in the opener against UCONN, Brown filled the void, becoming NC State’s starting Free Safety.

This season, Brown started in 11 of the 13 games that he played in, and ranked 3rd on the team in tackles (66) and pass breakups (5). He also had 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 1 forced fumble. Brown’s PFF Grade of 63.7 ranked 13th on the team. His Tackling Grade of 86.6 ranked 2nd on the team behind Payton Wilson. This offseason, Brown’s focus will be on improving his Coverage ability, having the third worst Coverage grade (51.4) of any defender with 100+ snaps. 2023 was really Brown’s first time seeing the field in his college career besides Special Teams. I think Brown has only scratched the surface of his potential.

Big news for the Wolfpack secondary!
