CFB Report Ranks NC State QB Grayson McCall as 1 of the Preseason Top-15 Quarterback for 2024

Published

on

College Football Report posted their Top 15 Quarterbacks for the 2024 season, and NC State’s Grayson McCall is ranked 13th.

McCall has already had a prolific college football career, earning Sun Belt Player of the Year honors in 2020, 2021 and 2022 as the Quarterback for Coastal Carolina. He’s already thrown for 10,0005 yards and 88 touchdowns with a career Passing Efficiency Rating of 178.4.

With all that he’s already accomplished, his best season could be his final season in 2024. While McCall has never played at the ACC level, he’s also never had the buffet line of weapons that he will have at his disposal next season.

He will have Sophomore Kevin Concepcion, who was the ACC Rookie of the Year as an option to throw to.

He will have Junior Wide Receiver Wesley Grimes, who transferred to NC State from Wake Forest this offseason, who caught 20 passes for 339 yards and 4 touchdowns. Coming out of high school Grimes was a 4-Star prospect out of Millbrook High School here in Raleigh. ON3, 247Sports and Rivals all ranked Grimes as a Top-250 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, with Rivals ranking him as the #36 overall player nationally, the #4 Wide Receiver, and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

McCall will have Redshirt Freshman Noah Rogers, who transferred to NC State from Ohio State this offseason. Rogers is the only player on the Wolfpack’s roster that was a 5-Star high school prospect. ON3 rated Rogers as a 5-Star prospect in the the 2023 class, and the #26 overall player nationally, the #3 Wide Receiver and the #1 player in the state of North Carolina. Rogers’ 247Sports ranking coming out of high school is tied for the 5th highest ever by a player to commit to NC State.

He will have the option of throwing to Junior Justin Joly, who transferred to NC State from UCONN this offseason. Even though NC State has him listed as a Wide Receiver on their roster, ON3 ranked Joly as the #1 Tight End in the Transfer Portal.

As we saw last year, if you’re good enough, true freshmen can feature significantly in NC State’s offense. The Wolfpack has four 4-star Wide Receivers who will be True Freshmen in 2024: Jonathan Paylor, Terrell Anderson, Keenan Jackson and Jimmar Boston. Don’t be shocked if a couple of these fellas become prominent targets for McCall next season. Paylor and Anderson are both Top-100 prospects nationally.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Select NC State’s Payton Wilson with the 98th Pick in the 2024 NFL Draft

Published

on

The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected NC State Linebacker Payton Wilson in the 3rd Round of the 2024 NFL Draft, with the 98th overall pick.

How on earth Wilson was the 98th player drafted is beyond me. Winner of the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Winner of the Butkus Award, given to the best Linebacker in College Football. Winner of the Bednarik Award, given to the best Defensive player in College football. Unanimous All-American. 3rd best PFF Grade by a Linebacker in 2023. Fastest 40-time by a LB at the NFL Combine.

Yet, he was the 7th Linebacker taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Absurd.

With that being said, I can’t think of a more fitting place for Wilson to play. He was born to play in the Black and Gold. The Steelers are a blue collar club, who carry a long history of defensive greatness. Wilson plays with reckless abandon, and with his hair on fire, and that’s exactly what you expect out of a Pittsburgh Linebacker.

Maybe I’m showing my cards here…I’m a Pittsburgh Steelers fan…and I can’t believe Payton Wilson will be wearing the Black and Gold this Fall.

Congrats Payton!
