Redshirt Senior Running Back Jordan Waters rushed for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns today in NC State’s 59-28 win over Stanford. He spoke with the media in the postgame press conference after the game. You can watch it ABOVE, and read the transcript BELOW.
What was the biggest difference today in the running game? You guys had 281 yards on the ground, you and Hollywood (Smothers) went for 100 yards. What was the biggest difference today compared to the other eight games?
Really just the mentality, like it’s been a rough one this year, and then just knowing what we’re capable of and what we put our bodies through and how hard we work, just the mentality of going out there and finishing the season the right way.
Just a couple questions on the 90-some-odd-yard run, I think it was 94 yards, just when you first see that hole and you know that pay-dirt is a possibility, describe that feeling.
I don’t know, man, I’m still tired, but I got to give it up to the O-line, man. I only think I got touched on the second level, and then that’s just what I’m capable of and just making a play, and like I said, the O-line made it happen for me.
Obviously, there’s pursuit coming, but you were able to close it out and get to the barn. Just describe that. How rewarding is it? How cool is that to know that you had that breakout speed?
I needed that.
Shout out to Coach Doeren and the staff for all the work we put in and the speed work we put in, but I needed that really for myself, honestly, build me back up.
You got here the same time as Hollywood. You two have kind of gone through this season, and today both had 100 yards. How have you seen him kind of grow as a player in your time as teammates?
He’s so consistent.
He come in with a mindset of he wanted this, and if you’re around Hollywood, he makes everybody around him better, and that’s why he continues to get better every day, and he’s going to be a great one for NC State.
You talked about today being a game that can help build you back up. What was the mentality or the mindset for you to kind of get back to this point, throughout this year for yourself?
For me, just to stay consistent, continue doing the same thing.
I know what I’m capable of, and just stay consistent, continue to do my routine, and don’t change. I knew it was going to come one day.
Where is the growth potential for the last third of the season? How good can you guys be, and what are the goals you guys are shooting for?
We want to finish the rest of the year, and win out, and we’re capable of it, but just to show everybody what we can do, and we put in a lot of work to be here, and just continue to get better.
