Former NC State Safety Jakeen Harris Commits to UNC

Former NC State Safety Jakeen Harris announced on Christmas day that he will be transferring to UNC.

Harris entered the 2023 season as the Wolfpack’s starter at Free Safety, but suffered a season ending injury in the opening game at UCONN. After his exodus, NC State found a good thing with Devan Boykin starting at Strong Safety, Sean Brown starting at Free, and Bishop Fitzgerald rotating amongst the two.

Ultimately, with the likely return of Brown, Boykin and Fitzgerald, and the talented young depth in the Safety room, Harris made a move to make sure he played significant minutes in his final year of eligibility.

Despite the fact that the Wolfpack still played well at the Safety position without Harris, it doesn’t mean that losing him is a small deal. He played in 29 games over 5 seasons, tallying 80 tackles, 3 interceptions and 8 pass breakups, and he was a starter in a good chunk of those games.

Here’s a rundown of where players that have transferred from NC State have landed:

S Jakeen Harris – UNC
RB Michael Allen – UNLV
WR Anthony Smith – East Carolina
TE Christopher Toudle – Western Michigan
NT CJ Clark – Miami
QB MJ Morris – Maryland
WR Terrell Timmons – Colorado
WR Porter Rooks – Eastern Michigan
LB Torren Wright – Temple
