NC State Redshirt Junior Pitcher Garrett Payne is entering the Transfer Portal.

NC State RHP Garrett Payne, who started the “Pack13” game at the 2021 College World Series, has entered the transfer portal, @TheWolfpacker and @On3sports have learned.

Payne has been with the Wolfpack his entire collegiate career, joining the team in 2021 out of Charlottesville, Virginia.

As a True Freshman, Payne pitched in 7 games, but he will be remembered for his lone start of the season against Vanderbilt in the 2021 College World Series. He went 5 innings, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits. Payne’s Freshman ERA was 5.27.

The following year, Payne’s record was 3-1 in 20 appearances (5 starts). He struck out 43 batters in 42.2 innings, with an ERA of 5.91.

Payne sat out all of the 2023 season due to injury, and only made 6 appearances this season, giving up 6 earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched.
