No. 14 NC State put on a clinic Tuesday afternoon, shutting out Richmond 27-0 in Raleigh.

The performance marked the 58th time in program history that the Wolfpack has scored 20 or more runs in a game, and the 35th time under head coach Elliott Avent.

The 27-run outburst is tied for the fifth-most runs ever scored in a single game in school history.

But here’s the headline within the headline:

It set a new program record for most runs scored in a shutout victory.

Most Runs in a Game – Program History

1) La Salle 32-3 2/19/10
2) Wake Forest 29-10 3/29/84
3) High Point 28-3 3/14/80
3) Maryland 28-9 4/13/97
5) Virginia 27-8 5/17/56
5) Rider 27-3 5/18/91
5) Coppin State 27-5 2/24/02
5) Richmond W 27-0 2/24/26
9) WCU 25-4 2/25/84
9) Wagner 25-4 2/24/13
9) NC A&T 25-1 4/24/16

While NC State has reached 27 runs multiple times before, never in program history had the Wolfpack paired that offensive eruption with a shutout.

Until now.
