Success across an entire athletic department is difficult.

Sustaining that success across multiple major sports in the same academic year is even harder.

Only 7 schools in the country accomplished all four of the following during the 2025-26 athletic year:

Made a bowl game
Made the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
Made the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament
Made the NCAA Baseball Tournament

NC State was one of them.

The Exclusive List

Only seven schools checked all four boxes during the 2025-26 season:

NC State
Nebraska
Virginia
Texas
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama

It’s an impressive group that includes some of the largest athletic brands in the country.

The Wolfpack’s presence on the list speaks to the strength and consistency of NC State’s athletic department across the “big four.”

Results

In baseball, NC State earned a spot as the #3 seed in the Auburn Regional (#4 overall).

In football, the Wolfpack defeated Memphis 31-7 in the Gasparilla Bowl.

In men’s basketball, NC State lost to Texas in a First Four game in the 2026 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

In women’s basketball, the Wolfpack (#7 seed) lost to Michigan (#2 seed) in the 2nd round of the Big Dance.

A Department-Wide Achievement

Many schools can field an elite football program.

Others excel in basketball.

Some thrive in baseball.

Very few manage to reach the postseason in all four of these marquee sports during the same academic year.
