#13 NC State (4-2) secured a series victory over Hawaii (3-4) yesterday, defeating the Rainbow Warriors 10-8 in the series finale.
After trailing 4-3 in the 4th inning, the Wolfpack capitalized on a 7-run Top of the 5th, which ultimately was enough to hold on to the victory, despite the fact that Hawaii scored 4 runs combined in the 7th and 8th innings.
The game was ultimately called after the 8th inning due to a travel curfew.
Every single Wolfpack batter logged a hit, with the team picking up 15 hits total. Six of the nine batters had 2 hits: RF Noah Soles, LF Josh Hogue, 1B Garrett Pennington, 3B Alec Makarewicz, CF Eli Serrano III and 2B Luke Nixon.
Hogue, Cozart, DH Drew Lanphere and Nixon all had 2 RBI apiece.
Last nights victory was really a single fest for the Wolfpack. Only 2 of NC State’s hits went for extra bases. Pennington hit a double and Cozart hit a home run.
After a brilliant collegiate debut on the mound last week, Freshman Ryan Marohn’s 2nd start wasn’t quite as smooth. He gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 3.1 innings, while walking 5 over 87 pitches. Sophomore Shane Van Dam picked up his 2nd Win of the season in relief, but it was a tad bumpy. Van Dam gave up 3 runs in 3.2 innings pitched, while striking out 4 over 68 pitches.
Sophomore Derrick Smith picked up the final out, and that was enough to get the Save.
