NC State vs. SMU: A Historical Perspective

NC State and SMU’s men’s basketball teams will face off for the third time today at noon on The CW Network. The series, which began on February 9, 1985, is currently tied, with each team having claimed one victory.

In the first game of the series, the Wolfpack achieved a significant upset by defeating the #4 Mustangs 82-78 in overtime at Reynolds Coliseum. Terry Gannon led NC State with 19 points, while Lorenzo Charles and Nate McMillan each secured 10 rebounds.

In the second game, SMU exacted their revenge by defeating #16 NC State 59-57 on their home court on December 3, 1988.

Today’s game marks the first time the two teams have played each other as ACC foes.
