Former NC State All-ACC LB David Merritt is Headed to his 6th Super Bowl as an Assistant Coach

Former NC State All-ACC Linebacker David Merritt is heading to his 6th Super Bowl as an NFL Assistant Coach this evening. Merritt has gone to his last 4 Super Bowl appearances as the Defensive Backs Coach for the Kansas City Chiefs since 2019. He went to his first 2 Super Bowls as the Secondary and Safeties Coach for the New York Giants.

In 1992, Merritt earned 1st Team All-ACC honors at NC State. His 167 tackles that season are tied for the 4th most in school history in a single season.

After being drafted in the 7th round of the 1993 NFL Draft, Merritt went on to play 3 seasons in the NFL, split between the Dolphins and the Cardinals.

Merritt is a Raleigh native, playing High School ball at Millbrook High School
