According to Jon Rothstein, NC State and VCU are finalizing an agreement to play a men’s basketball home-and-home series, which would begin next season with a game in Raleigh. The Wolfpack would then head to Richmond to play the Rams in the 2026-27 season.

This would mark the first time NC State and VCU have played one another in men’s basketball.

It’s fitting that the first non-conference home-and-home series scheduled after the hiring of Will Wade would be against VCU. Wade was an assistant coach with the Rams for four seasons under Shaka Smart from 2009-13 and was their head coach for two seasons from 2015-17.

During Wade’s two years as the Rams’ head coach, VCU went 51-20, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in both seasons. In Year 1, VCU won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship, and in Year 2, the Rams advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

This past season, VCU was 28-7, winning the Atlantic 10 Regular Season and Tournament Championships before ultimately losing to BYU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
