Will, you set a school record for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in school history. This is a school that has Russell Wilson and many others. What does it mean to you to do something at a school that has such a fine quarterback lineage?

First and foremost, I just want to give glory to God for just allowing me to take the field with my brothers and play for them. But, I mean, it means a lot, but it means the most just being out there, getting to contribute and play for the Seniors and give them a win. So, that meant the most.

What goes through your mind when you’re taking the field for some of those plays, and you know you’ve got to make a big play?

The only thing that goes to my mind is just go get it. I wear the wristband every single day. I got a wristband that says ‘Go get it.’ That’s the mindset with everything you do in life, but just go get it every single time. Don’t think twice about it.

What’s it like just for you as a Freshman, you know, obviously with CJ (Bailey) being the starter, but having the role you’ve had, it seemed like you really embraced it, and just made the most of it so far.

It’s a blessing. A lot of Freshmen, a lot of Freshmen aren’t able to get this opportunity, you know, so I take full advantage of it. Also, I just try to get experience, you know, being on the field during crucial moments, taking it all in and just executing, doing what the team needs me to do.

It’s awesome. It’s a blessing.

Is there anything you do when you’re going out there? It’s, you know, third and one, fourth and one. It’s kind of like a must get situation. Is there anything you do kind of to calm yourself down and get ready for a big play like that?

Will Wilson: Nah. I talk to God. I do this. I point out to God and I go get it. I go do it.

CJ Bailey: The GOAT! 4 touchdowns!

It seemed like you carried a bunch of defenders in the end zone on that 15-yard touchdown. What was that moment like for you, as you kind of just barreled your way into the end zone?

That 15-yard touchdown, the one I got carried? You don’t know which one you just carried around the house.

That was amazing. That was fun. I got took for a ride. Like, when I got tackled, next thing I know, I’m on my feet in the air. I’m just enjoying the ride, protecting the ball. That was fun.

Well, CJ made his appearance for us, but what has he meant to you as a young quarterback? How has he encouraged you, or mentored you this season?

Man, just that confidence, you know, just being young. He got to start when he was young. That confidence. ‘Don’t go out there second-guessing yourself. Do what you do. Do what you were born to do.’ Just being around and learning how to maneuver the defense, because every time he goes out there, he has a high completion rating, and that’s awesome. So, Just learning, instilling that confidence, going to get it, no matter the age, no matter because I’m young.

Will, you hear about athletes being in the zone. Can a running quarterback sort of be in the zone? When you’re out there, you just sort of feel like, ‘I’m going to get this first down’ or ‘I’m going to get this touchdown.’ What were you seeing across the line of scrimmage from North Carolina that gave you the confidence that you could keep doing what you did?

The only thing that gave me confidence was God, because that’s the only one that got me through, you know? I mean, no matter which way they lined up, or who they put out there, I believed in myself. I believed, first of all, I believed in the boys up front, because it was all them. I believed in the boys up front, and I believed in myself, and I went and got it.
