All-ACC CB Aydan White is Returning to NC State in 2024, Taking His Name out of the Transfer Portal

Published

on

On January 2nd, All-ACC Cornerback Aydan White announced that he would be transferring from NC State for his final year of eligibility.

Out of the 23 scholarship players who entered the Portal, White’s announcement was easily the most painful, losing a player who earned All-ACC honors the past two seasons.

Well, sometimes people change their minds!

White has decided to pull his name out of the Transfer Portal, and he will be returning to NC State for his final year of eligibility in 2024.

In 2023, White ranked 2nd on the team in interceptions with 2, and led the Pack with 10 pass breakups. His PFF grade of 72.2 ranked 5th on the Wolfpack defense this season, and his Coverage grade of 71.7 ranked 3rd. In 2022, White led the Pack with 4 interceptions and 9 pass breakups. His PFF Grade in 2022 was 79.7, which was third best on the team.

White earned 1st Team All-ACC honors in 2022, and 3rd Team honors this past season.

Prior to today, it looked like NC State was going to be without either of their starters at Cornerback in 2024, with White Transferring and Shyheim Battle declaring for the NFL Draft. With White now announcing his return, we know for sure who one of the starting Cornerbacks will be. Sophomore Brandon Cisse, Junior Devon Marshall (Transfer from Villanova) and Senior Corey Coley Jr. (Transfer from Maryland) will likely battle it out for the other starting spot.

There were three players with one year of eligibility remaining that I thought were imperative for NC State to find a way to bring back: Defensive End Davin Vann, and Cornerbacks Aydan White and Shyheim Battle. The Wolfpack has found a way to bring back Vann and White, and out of the 3 (or any other player who could return for that matter), I believe they were the most important.

Big day for the 2024 NC State defense!

This is great. Now get another quality linebacker and defensive and offensive linemen. Does this help our transfer portal rating when a transfer comes back home?

The Athletic Includes NC State in Their Post-Spring 2024 Preseason Top-25

Published

on

The Athletic released their 2024 Post-Spring Preseason Top-25, and NC State landed at #21. Here’s what they had to say about the Wolfpack.

21. NC State

The Wolfpack made a huge acquisition at quarterback in landing Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall. They also added former Ohio State wide receiver Noah Rogers, a North Carolina native and one-time top-50 national prospect. It’ll be hard to overcome the loss of linebacker Payton Wilson, one of the best defensive players in the country a year ago, and there are plenty of personnel questions in the secondary. But Dave Doeren always has this team ready to go. (The Athletic)

ACC in the Top 25

10. Miami

12. FSU

18. Clemson

21. NC State

22. Louisville

Tennessee, who the Wolfpack will play in Week 2 in Bank of America Stadium, is sitting at #15.

PI EXCLUSIVE: Akron Safety Kerry Martin Jr. Breaks Down His Commitment to NC State

Published

on

Akron Safety Kerry Martin Jr. committed to NC State earlier today after wrapping up an Official Visit. I caught up with Martin Jr. to get his reasons for deciding to run with the Wolfpack.

Why did you decide to spend your final year of eligibility at NC State?

It was a no brainer. Along with the relationships that are already instilled, I see that I have an opportunity to come in and uphold the standard that has been set. I also have the shot to be able to continue to pursue the next level and where is a better place to be than with those who know your capabilities as an athlete, and will continue to mold me as a man using their experiences in life.

How much did your prior connection to Coach Gibson play into your decision?

The connection between us was the factor. Unfortunately, I was not able to learn from his by initially signing to WVU out of high school. You can say that life has its way of making things come full circle. Much gratitude for the situation I’m coming into, especially with open arms amongst the staff and players.

Did you talk to your cousin Derrek about his time in Raleigh?

I have not discussed it in depth with him yet, but I will soon. I’d imagine it would only exceed my expectations because of his relationships I hear about with his former teammates here.

With one year left, what’s your goals for next season?

My goal is to solely do what it takes to win, add more value to the team and compete to get to the next venture we all dream about.

What type of player is NC State getting in Kerry Martin Jr.?

The type of player NC State is getting out of me is a blue collar worker. Appreciative for everything that has come to me, and that will come. A humble person that you can talk to, so if you see me and recognize me, don’t hesitate to stop for a conversation as I enjoy learning about others.
