NC State True Freshman Wide Receiver Jonathan Paylor (5’10″/180) has re-signed with Savage Wolves, NC State’s Football NIL Branch (as a part of 1Pack), which means he will be returning in 2025.

Paylor only played 3 snaps in 2 games this season, playing 2 against Western Carolina in the season opener, and 1 snap against Tennessee.

On the same day that Wide Receiver KC Concepcion announced he was transferring, Paylor tweeted the following.

The way I read that tweet, is that Paylor sees the exodus of Concepcion as the sign that it is now his time. Just because other True Freshmen shined in 2024, don’t get it twisted. Paylor could still be the most talented of the bunch.

Paylor was one of the highest ranked players in the Wolfpack’s 2024 recruiting class, but he didn’t see much action this season because he wasn’t an early enrollee, competing in track his Senior season.

But don’t take Paylor’s low work load this season as a sign that he isn’t a star in waiting.

Paylor was a consensus 4-Star prospect out of Cummings High School (Burlington, North Carolina). Rivals ranked him as the #65 overall player nationally, and the #15 Wide Receiver. ESPN ranked him as the #79 overall player nationally, the #3 Athlete and the #1 player in the state of North Carolina. ON3 ranked him as the #28 Running Back in the nation.

The recruiting databases didn’t know what position to slot Paylor in. He’s truly a Swiss Army Knife.

As a Senior at Cummings (Burlington, North Carolina), Paylor rushed 2,378 yards and 30 touchdowns, averaging 14.1 yards per carry. He also had 25 receptions for 381 yards and 3 touchdowns. Paylor also returned 2 punts for touchdowns, and 1 kickoff for a touchdown.

I could see Paylor sliding into KC’s position in 2025. He can obviously play in the slot, but from his stats above, it’s obvious that you can put him in the backfield as well. Paylor a dream for an offense that wants to utilize a gadget player.

Paylor is one of the best athletes on NC State’s roster, who will also be running Track for the Wolfpack.
