NC State continued its recruiting surge this week as 2027 offensive lineman Jacob Burns announced his commitment to the Wolfpack yesterday.
The 6-foot-7, 305-pound lineman gives Dave Doeren and his staff another significant addition to an increasingly impressive 2027 recruiting class.
Burns becomes the latest prospect to commit following an Official Visit to Raleigh, continuing a trend that has paid major dividends for the Wolfpack throughout the summer recruiting season.
Recruitment Years in the Making
NC State’s pursuit of Burns didn’t begin recently.
In fact, the Wolfpack offered him all the way back on February 15, 2024, making NC State one of the earliest programs to identify and prioritize him.
That long-term investment ultimately paid off.
Burns recently took an Official Visit to Raleigh before announcing his commitment. He had also taken an Official Visit to Virginia Tech and still had trips scheduled to Florida State and Georgia Tech before shutting down his recruitment.
Recruiting Profile
Burns is considered a consensus 3-star prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
ESPN currently ranks him as:
- No. 27 Offensive Guard nationally
- No. 65 overall player in Georgia
At 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds, Burns already possesses the size college programs covet along the offensive line.
Loaded Offer Sheet
Burns is one of the more heavily recruited offensive linemen in the Southeast.
His offer list includes:
Alabama
Arkansas
Boston College
Duke
Florida
Florida State
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisville
Maryland
Mississippi State
North Carolina
Ohio State
Pitt
Rutgers
Syracuse
Tennessee
Texas A&M
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
and others.
Winning a recruiting battle against that caliber of competition is a notable victory for the Wolfpack staff.
Prototype Size
It’s impossible to discuss Burns without mentioning his frame.
At 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds, he already looks the part of a Power Four offensive lineman.
Players with that combination of height, length, and size are always highly coveted on the recruiting trail because of their developmental ceiling.
Whether he ultimately settles at guard or tackle at the collegiate level, the physical tools are already in place.
Georgia Pipeline Remains Strong
Burns plays for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, Georgia.
The Peach State continues to be one of NC State’s most productive recruiting territories, and Burns becomes another example of the Wolfpack successfully going into Georgia and beating out SEC and ACC competition for top talent.
