NC State guard Mike James (6’5″, 200 lbs) is entering the transfer portal, according to Joe Tipton of ON3.

It was a challenging year for Mike James in Raleigh. At the beginning of the season, former NC State Head Coach Kevin Keatts projected that James would miss only 3-4 games, or at most 2-3 weeks. However, as the season progressed, updates from Keatts indicated that James was limited to individual workouts and was not fully available to play.

James transferred to NC State this past offseason from Louisville and was expected to be a key player in the Wolfpack’s success. Unfortunately, James never made it onto the court due to a knee injury that required surgery.

After redshirting his first season with the Cardinals due to a torn Achilles, James averaged 11.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game over the following two seasons, with a 34.8% three-point shooting percentage.

Numerous outlets report that James has two years of eligibility remaining. However, this is contingent on his receiving a medical waiver from the NCAA, as he missed the entire season this year and had already used his redshirt season in 2021-22.

Yesterday, news broke that NC State forward Ben Middlebrooks would also be entering the transfer portal.
