A ‘Kill Shot’ is an interesting stat that the Evan Miya CBB Analytics site collects.

It’s essentially a 10-0 run, and while I’m not fully versed yet on how it plays into the bigger picture, I figured it’d be interesting to share.

I’ll dig deeper, because my guess is that it could point out certain combinations that have fared well, or ones that haven’t (you’d need to be able to look at who was on the floor during these ‘Kill Shots.’) Same goes with individual players…

But for now, let’s look at the raw numbers…

NC State has gone on TWELVE 10-0 runs. That’s good for 22nd place nationally.

Duke leads the nation with 18, but I’ve been around long enough to know that there is a little “Cameron Indoor” factoring into that number. We all know that when Duke gets going on one of those runs, and the Cameron Crazies go into full ‘crazy’ mode, it’s like the refs get a little too caught up in the action. (Which leads me to wonder what percentage of ‘Kill Shots’ happen on the teams home floor).

Anyways, the other side of this is that NC State has allowed 6 kill shots, which as I look at the better teams on this list, seems like it’s on the higher side for a team of NC State’s caliber.

Let’s put a pin in this for now, but we’ll keep tracking this and try to look at combination or player trends that appear during these runs. Stay tuned!
