We have confirmed Maryland transfer guard Darius Adams (6’5”, 190 pounds) is currently on an official visit at NC State.

Adams made an immediate impact as a freshman with the Terrapins, averaging 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He carved out a significant role early, starting 28 of 33 games while averaging 25.6 minutes per contest.

While his efficiency (35.4% FG, 24.8% 3PT) leaves room for growth, the volume, opportunity, and pedigree make him a highly intriguing portal prospect.

There’s already familiarity between Adams and NC State.

He previously took an official visit to Raleigh in 2024 during his high school recruitment. Adams originally committed to UConn before ultimately flipping to Maryland.

Coming out of La Lumiere (IN), Adams was one of the most highly regarded prospects in the country. Rivals rated him as a 5-star recruit, ranking him No. 15 overall nationally and the No. 6 shooting guard in the 2025 class. ESPN ranked him as the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana, and he earned McDonald’s All-American Game honors.

At the transfer level, both ON3 and 247Sports currently rate him as a 4-star prospect, with ON3 ranking him No. 261 overall and the No. 58 shooting guard in the portal.

We mentioned Adams in our ‘roster breakdown‘ last night, as we were told he was set to visit, but hadn’t confirmed he arrived. Now we have, and this is one we hope goes well. Adams was a UConn commit initially, but after they landed some big portal adds, he decommitted and headed to Maryland. While at Maryland, he was thrust into a prominent role after their leading scorer and two other guards went down with injuries. He was forced to score, distribute, and lead the team as a freshman. As you can tell by looking at the stats, he wasn’t really ready for that role. He put up good counting stats, but his efficiency numbers leave a lot to be desired.

NC State has the weapons to put around Adams that could allow him to tap into that 5-star potential most were expecting out of HS.

This is one to keep a close eye on.
