NC State Finished the 2025-26 Athletic Year with a Winning Record Over Rival UNC

Barring a potential NCAA Baseball Tournament matchup between NC State and UNC, the Wolfpack officially finished the 2025-26 athletic year with a winning record against its biggest rival.

Several Wolfpack wins over the Tar Heels stood out in a major way this year.

Football

NC State defeated UNC 42-19 on November 29th winning their 5th straight game against their rival.

Men’s Basketball

The Wolfpack rolled the 16th ranked Heels 82-58 in Raleigh on February 17th. The 24-point win is tied for the 6th largest margin of victory against UNC, and the largest since 1961-62.

Wrestling

NC State continued its dominance on the mat with a convincing 24-10 win on January 23rd, winning their 13th straight match against the Tar Heels.

Swimming & Diving

NC State swept both swimming & diving matchups on January 16th, continuing a dominance over their rival that spans over a decade. The Wolfpack Men have defeated the Tar Heels 12 straight times, and the Women have won 11 consecutive meets.

Women’s Gymnastics

The Wolfpack and Tar Heels met four times in gymnastics this season, with NC State winning three of the four matchups.

Women’s Tennis

After losing to their rival in the regular season, the 13th ranked Wolfpack upset the 6th ranked Tar Heels to advance to the ACC Championship match, which they went on to win against #7 UVA.
