NC State continued its busy transfer portal season on Thursday, landing a commitment from former Florida left-handed pitcher McCall Biemiller.

At first glance, Biemiller’s college statistics may not jump off the page.

His appeal lies elsewhere.

This is the type of portal addition that is built almost entirely around projection, upside, and pedigree.

For Chris Hart and the Wolfpack, the belief is clear: there’s still plenty of untapped potential waiting to be unlocked.

Limited Production at Florida

Biemiller spent the past two seasons with the Gators but saw limited opportunities on the mound.

2026 Season
1 appearance
0.0 innings pitched
Faced 3 batters

The left-hander appeared in just one game and was unable to record an out before being removed.

2025 Season
11 appearances
1 start
5.93 ERA
2.05 WHIP
18 strikeouts
13.2 innings pitched

The numbers weren’t particularly impressive, but the strikeout rate does provide an interesting glimpse into the raw talent that originally made him a highly regarded recruit.

Why NC State Is Interested

The key word here is upside.

Biemiller’s production at Florida never matched the expectations attached to him coming out of high school, but that doesn’t mean the talent disappeared.

In fact, many programs actively target former blue-chip recruits who may simply need a change of scenery.

The Wolfpack appears to believe Biemiller falls into that category.

Highly-Touted Prospect

Coming out of high school, Biemiller was one of the better left-handed pitching prospects in Florida.

According to Perfect Game, he was ranked:

  • No. 61 overall player in Florida
  • No. 5 left-handed pitcher in Florida
  • No. 405 overall player nationally
  • No. 44 left-handed pitcher nationally

Those rankings reflect the type of raw ability that attracted a program like Florida in the first place.

A Classic Buy-Low Portal Addition

Not every transfer portal pickup is an established star.

Some are players coming off career seasons.

Others are players whose best baseball may still be ahead of them.

Biemiller feels much closer to the second category.

The Wolfpack isn’t bringing him to Raleigh because of what he accomplished at Florida.

They’re bringing him in because of what they believe he can become.
