The newest standings of the Directors’ Cup were released today, after the finish of the track & field season. The Wolfpack slipped back one spot to 28th in these updated standings.  The women’s track & field team didn’t finish in the top-65 and failed to contribute any points. The men’s track & field team finished 44th and added 27 points to NC State’s total. The Wolfpack has never finished in the top-30 in the Directors Cup, with its best finish being 32nd (94-95). On June 25th or 26th, the final baseball standings will be added to finalize the Directors’ Cup standings for the 2014-15 season. They will definetly earn points for their strong finish, but the question is whether or not it will be enough to finish in the top-25.

I think the answer to that question is no. If they are awarded 50 points for finishing in the top-32 in a 64-team bracket field, they may jump one spot, but it is impossible to jump more than that. Nonetheless, this is the best year the NC State athletic program has had in the history of the Directors’ Cup.
