After receiving a commitment from Kollin Byers earlier in the day, NC State picked up a second commitment to the 2016 NC State football recruiting class in Hillside’s DaeShawn Stephens last night.  I caught up with the wide receiver today to talk about his commitment to the Wolfpack.

Stephens told me that NC State started recruiting him early last season, and that Coach McDonald even came by the school to talk with him.  When NC State offered, he was confident he was offered by the top football school in the state.

“I personally believe that NC State is the best in-state football program in the state of North Carolina,” said Stephens.  “When I looked into Coach Doreen’s eyes, I could tell that he meant everything that he was saying.  I just know that NC State is a good place for me to go to further my football career.”

Stephens has plus-size for a receiver, standing 6’2″ (205lbs), and that is one of the things that NC State likes about him.

“The NC State coaches really like my size,” said Stephens.  “They said they could see me being a go-to receiver on third downs, and when plays need to be made.”

When I asked him if he knew any of the other 2016 football commits, he said that he already knew Tight End Bryce Dixon and Linebacker Garrett Hooker.  He said that all of the commits that were at the Alpha Wolf Showcase last night at NC State formed one large group text to stay in communication.

Stephens cited a variety of things that he wants to work on, but gave one of the best, yet obvious, goals I have heard out of a wide receiver.  He wants to catch ’em all.

“I’m just planning on working on my route running and getting faster,” said Stephens.  “I really want to work on my conditioning, so I don’t get as fatigued as I used to.  And I guess to catch everything that comes my way!”

PI EXCLUSIVE: 4-Star QB Cedrick Bailey Talks Commitment to NC State

Published

on

On March 13th, NC State picked up a verbal commitment from 4-Star 2024 Quarterback Cedrick Bailey. I caught up with Bailey, and got his take on why he committed to run with the Wolfpack.

NC State recruited me well and I loved that. What made me choose NC State was the coaches, the offensive system. Taking that visit sealed the deal. NC State is everything I was looking for. It was great up there.

The main thing that intrigues me in this NC State offense is that they air the ball out and they scheme so well. When I was watching their practice, I saw so many great things in their offense, and I can see myself being comfortable in their offense.

The main thing I need to work on and focus on this season is being more consistent. One bad thing I do, is that when we are winning, I tend to relax and kinda take my foot off the gas and that messes my mechanics up. My main goal for my Senior season is to win one last state championship with my guys.

The guys I’m recruiting to come with me to NC State are Jayden Scott, Jonathan Paylor, William Sanders, Jordan Shipp, Channing Goodwin, Alex Taylor, Terrell Anderson, Keenan Jackson, and Jameer Grimsley

The coaches and players built a great connection with me since they recruited me, and when I took the visit there, the players loved me. They made me feel welcomed and the coaches are willing to take care of me like I’m their own child, so I’m happy that there’s someone to take care of me as I leave home.

Bailey chose NC State over offers from Georgia Tech, Indiana, Louisville, Florida State, Texas A&M and others.

He plays for Chaminade Madonna in Hollywood, Florida. Bailey’s stats last season were video game level. He threw for 3,355 yards, completing 70.2%. Bailey threw 45 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions.
