Tracking NC State Baseball’s Transfer Portal Losses

Much of the attention surrounding NC State baseball’s offseason has focused on the players Chris Hart and his staff have brought into the program through the transfer portal.

And for good reason.

The Wolfpack has already landed several proven college players who could make an immediate impact in Raleigh.

However, roster building is a two-way street. For every player added, another often departs.

As things currently stand, NC State has lost four players to the transfer portal while adding five newcomers.

Let’s take a look at the departures and how they compare to the additions.

RHP Julien Peissel

Peissel struggled on the mound this season for the Wolfpack, posting a 10.45 ERA in 9 appearances (2 starts). He struck out 9 batters in 10.1 innings, but struggled with control, walking 8 batters.

Peissel transferred to NC State prior to the 2025 season from UNC-Greensboro, but didn’t see the field in 2025.

He has 1 more year of eligibility.

RHP Landon Carr

Carr only made 2 appearances for NC State this season, giving up 1 earned run in 1.2 innings, while walking 5. The year before he only made one appearance.

Prior to the 2025 season, Carr transferred to NC State from the JUCO ranks.

He has 1 more year of eligibility.

OF Devin Mitchell

Mitchell saw the field in 13 games this season, starting in 1. In 12 plate appearances, Mitchell hit .250. He transferred to NC State prior to this season from the JUCO ranks.

He has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

C Vincent DeCarlo

DeCarlo was Drew Lanphere’s primary backup at catcher this season, hitting .257 as a true freshman. He appeared in 21 games, making 6 starts.

Prior to heading to college this year, DeCarlo was ranked as the #2 catcher in the state of Florida in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #21 catcher nationally.

The Transfer Portal closes on June 30th.

Evaluating The Losses

While every departure matters, it’s difficult to argue NC State has lost a substantial amount of on-field production through the portal to this point.

Combined, the four departing players accounted for:

Limited innings on the mound
Limited plate appearances
One reserve catcher role

The biggest loss is future potential in DeCarlo’s case rather than proven production.

NC State’s 2026 Transfer Class

Meanwhile, the Wolfpack has already added five transfers who bring significant collegiate production.

P Chet Lax (Wright St.)
