ICYMI #17 NC State Women’s Soccer Beat UNCG To Close Out Non-Conference Schedule

In case you missed it, the #17 NC State Women’s Soccer team (7-1-1) went on the road and defeated UNC-Greensboro (5-2-1) 1-0 on Wednesday to close out their Non-Conference schedule. Junior Kia Rankin scored the lone goal off an assist from Juniors Krissi Schuster and Paige Griffiths.

NC State dominated the match more than the score shows. The Wolfpack had more shots (17/5), shots on goal (5/3) and cornerbacks (4/1). Junior Tziarra King had 4 shots (1 on goal) and Rankin had 3 shots (1 on goal).

Senior Goal Keeper Sydney Wootten picked up her 4th shutout of the season, and the 21st of her career. She currently ranks 4th in school history, and is only 2 shutouts away from 3rd place. Wootten had two saves against UNCG.

The Wolfpack finished their non-conference slate with 7 wins, only one loss, and zero losses on the road.

Through 9 games, Tziarra King leads the ACC in shots per game (4.56), and ranks 2nd in goals per game (.667), 4th in points per game (1.67) and 10th in assists per game (.333). Kia Rankin ranks 6th in shots per game (3.29), and 7th in points per game (1.29). She also has 2 game-winning goals, which is tied for the ACC lead.

The Wolfpack will open their ACC slate at home next Thursday night against Wake Forest at 7pm.

#22 NC State Men’s Soccer Defeats Longwood 1-0

The 22nd ranked NC State Men’s Soccer team defeated Longwood 1-0 at home last night, improving to 2-1 on the year.

Freshman Pablo Pedregosa rushed in to score the lone goal of the night off a deflected header by the goalkeeper in the 34th minute. The assist was attributed to Senior Tyler Gabarra and Junior Jamie Smith.

Shots (on goal)

NC State: 18 (8)

Longwood: 3 (1)

The win marks the first career shutout by Redshirt Senior Goal Keeper Vincent Durand, and the 20th win at NC State by George Kiefer.

Thw Wolfpack will hit the road to play William & Mary on Tuesday.

NC State Women’s Soccer Moves up to #14

NC State Women’s Soccer team defeated Monmouth 1-0 this past Friday on the road, and moved up three spots in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 to #14.

The Wolfpack also moved up 4 spots to #16 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top-25.

The Wolfpack are scheduled to host Iowa tonight at 7pm in their home opener, but we will have to see if that game is cancelled due to weather.

NC State Men’s Soccer Moves into TDS Top-25 After Week 1

NC State Men’s Soccer team jumped into TopDrawerSoccer’s Week 2 Top-25 after going 1-1 this past weekend, defeating Loyola 2-1 on Friday, and falling 2-1 to St. John’s on Sunday night.

The Wolfpack will host Longbeach this Friday night at 7pm.

#17 NC State Women’s Soccer Defeats Monmouth 1-0 This Weekend

#17 NC State Women’s Soccer team defeated Monmouth 1-0 this past Friday night to wrap up a 3-match road trip, to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Senior Krissi Schuster scored an amazing goal off of a loooonnnnngggg assist from Sophomore Jenna Butler during the 74th minute.

Schuster was magical against Monmouth last year as well.

Junior Goalkeeper Jessica Berlin has big shoes to fill in 2019, and she recorded her first shutout of her career in her third game, recording 3 saves.

The Wolfpack will host Iowa on Thursday night in their first home match at 7pm.
