NC State just landed a huge commitment from Quarterback Bailey Hockman (6’2″/206), who recently transferred from Florida State.
Hockman, was a 4-star prospect that was a member of the Seminoles 2017 recruiting class. ESPN ranked him as the #180 overall player in the class and the #11 pro-style quarterback. Hockman originally committed to Georgia back in June of 2015, but decommitted in December of that year after Mark Richt was fired.
Ultimately, Hockman chose the Seminoles over a very impressive offer sheet, that included, Alabama, Michigan, Louisville, Miami, Michigan St., South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and others.
Hockman ended up redshirting his Freshman year at Florida St., losing out to James Blackman to take over the reigns for the injured Deondre Francois in 2017.
He announced that he was transferring from Florida State on August 31st, and has enrolled at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Hockman only took one official visit after leaving Tallahassee, and it was to NC State for the Georgia State game, and it seems that was enough to seal the deal. He will enroll at NC State in January, and have three years to play three seasons.
This is a huge pickup for the Wolfpack. They now have three 4-star quarterbacks (Devin Leary, Bailey Hockman and Matt McKay) on scholarship heading into the 2019 season, and the reasons are numerous why this is a benefit to the program. The competition will make each of them better, and the best one will emerge. It will give NC State needed depth if an injury occurs, or if the man that wins the job doesn’t produce.
Successful programs have highly rated players up and down their depth chart, not just their starters.
When January rolls around, the competition for that starting job will be a good one.
Hockman is from Georgia (McEachern High School), where the Wolfpack has had consistent success on the recruiting trail.
