INTERVIEW: 5-star commit Jalen Lecque answers the question ‘Why NC State?’

This morning was a good one for Kevin Keatts and the Wolfpack. That’s because 2019 5-star guard Jalen Lecque committed to the Wolfpack.

Lecque is an absolute elite athlete who can do it all (especially above the rim). Here he is answering Andrew Slater‘s question of why he chose NC State. (Slater is a writer for The Athletic)

Here are the bulleted highlights from the interview:

  • Coaching staff, players and fans felt like family. Felt like home.
  • It was just the right fit.
  • Keatts talked about becoming a winner and becoming a workhorse.
  • State has the pieces for him to just come in a play right away.
  • Like the staff and was treated life family
  • Told Keatts he was coming a few days ago. Staff was really excited and full of joy.
  • Coming to NC State and going to be aggressive, strong, and a winner.
  • Wants to lead NC State to the Sweet 16, Elite 8 and eventually the championship.
  • Very aggressive player Very exciting. Loves to play the game.
  • Needs to work on basketball vision. Working on his shot and it’s gotten a lot better.
  • Wants to become a dead-eye shooter
  • Friends with Blake Harris. TD and CJ were very welcoming and wanted him there.
  • Team was hyped to hear he was coming on board.
  • Keatts wants him to have the ball in his hands. Be the next Dennis Smith but win games for him.
  • Keatts is a really good coach. Going to lead him to where he needs to go.
  • Always looked up to Dennis Smith Jr.

3-Star G Shakeel Moore Commits to NC State

3-Star 2020 Guard Shakeel Moore (6’1″/185) committed to NC State tonight at the Phenom Hoops National Showcase.

Moore plays at Moravian Prep with NC State target 2020 5-Star Forward Josh Hall, and is ranked as the #7 player in the state of North Carolina according to 247Sports.

It was once thought that Moore would wait until the Spring, and it was also once thought that Providence would be where he landed, but both of those things obviously didn’t transpire.

Keatts and two of his assistant coaches were at his game last night, and the whole Moravian Prep team was at the Wolfpack’s game in Reynolds Coliseum this afternoon.

Moore is the 4th member of NC State’s 2020 recruiting class.

3-Star G Shakeel Moore to Announce Decision Today

NC State 2020 target 3-Star Combo Guard Shakeel Moore (6’1″/185) will be announcing his college decision today.

It was once thought that Moore would wait until the Spring, and it was also once thought that Providence would be where he landed, but it looks like both of those things have changed.

Wolfpack head coach Kevin Keatts, and assistants Roy Roberson and Takayo Siddle were in attendance last night to watch Moore and his Moravian Prep teammate 5-Star F Josh Hall at the Phenom National Showcase at Ravenscroft in Raleigh.

After news broke that Moore would be announcing today, Rivals National Basketball Analyst Eric Bossi submitted a FutureCast for Moore to land at NC State. Two days earlier, Corey Evans, another one of their National Basketball Analysts picked the Wolfpack as well.

4-Star SF Ja’Dun Michael Includes NC State in Final-7

2021 4-Star Small Forward Ja’Dun Michael (6’5″/185) released his Final-7 schools last night, and NC State made the cut along with Penn State, Louisville, Providence, Wichita State, Cincinnati, and Elon.

The Wolfpack offered Michael back on September 1st.

247Sports ranks him as the #105 overall player in the nation in 2021, the #22 Small Forward, and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina. Michael plays for The Burlington School (Burlington, NC).

Michael has already took an Official Visit to Penn State on the weekend of October 4th. He plays on Team Loaded on the AAU circuit with 2020 NC State target 5-Star Forward Josh Hall.

4-Star PG Cam Hayes Signs Letter of Intent to Play at NC State

4-Star 2020 Point Guard Cam Hayes (6’1″/160) signed his national letter of intent to play basketball at NC State today.

Hayes committed to run with the Pack back on September 13th, after deciding to reclassify from the 2021 class.

247Sports’ Composite ranks him as the #46 overall player inn the class, the #5 point guard, and the #3 player in the state of North Carolina.

Hayes plays for Greensboro Day School.

Hayes is a part of a 3-man NC State 2020 class that currently ranks 19th according to 247Sports.
