NC State Pitcher Tristan Potts Enters Transfer Portal

NC State’s offseason transfer portal activity continues.

Two days ago, left-handed pitcher Tristan Potts announced he would be entering the Transfer Portal, becoming the fifth Wolfpack player to depart the program this offseason.

Potts arrived in Raleigh as one of the top pitching prospects in North Carolina, and while his sophomore season didn’t go as planned, his freshman campaign showed why he was so highly regarded coming out of high school.

Sophomore Season Struggles

Potts saw limited action during the 2026 season.

The Wolfpack appeared to have found a young left-handed arm capable of becoming a contributor in future seasons.

Unfortunately, that momentum didn’t carry over into Year 2.

Still, it’s easy to see why another program may view Potts as a worthwhile developmental addition.

Highly-Regarded Recruit

Potts wasn’t just another arm coming out of high school.

The Waxhaw native was one of the top prospects in North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class.

According to Perfect Game, he was ranked:

• No. 2 left-handed pitcher in North Carolina
• No. 18 overall player in North Carolina

He starred at Cuthbertson High School before signing with the Wolfpack.
