G-LEAGUE CHECK-IN: An update on former NC State star Dereon Seabron

Seabron came to NC State as a four-star recruit (#102 overall prospect by 247). After redshirting a year he played in 24 games, averaging 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He finished the season strong, averaging 8.4 points over the last eight games. Things started clicking later in his redshirt freshman season, as he was named the ACC Freshman of the Week after a breakout game against Notre Dame, pouring in 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

The next year is when Seabron really broke out. He averaged 17.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. With Cam Hayes, NC State’s starting PG, really struggling, Keatts moved Seabron to PG and it changed everything. Seabron excelled here, becoming the ACC Most Improved Player and earning a spot on the All-ACC Second Team. He had some crazy games, including an insane 39-point, 18-rebound performance, which ended up being a quadruple overtime victory against Nebraska, (setting an ACC-Big Ten Challenge scoring record)

After his sophomore season, Seabron declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. Unfortuntely, he wasn’t selected in the draft but signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Since then he’s been in the G-League most of the time. However, he has had 11 NBA appearances for the Pelicans. Including a 9 points performance in 2023.

So what is Seabron doing now? Well, he’s a pretty dominant player in the G-League, hoping to get another shot in the pros.

This year he’s averaging 16.7 ppg, shooting 51% from the floor, 31.1% from 3pt range, averaging 4.8 rebounds per game and 4.3 assist per game.

Here is a recent highlight reel…
