NC State has landed 6’2, 185lb PG Tre Holloman from Michigan State.

Holloman has played 3 years with the Spartans, but is now heading east to Raleigh.

If you look at Hollowman’s stats, nothing is jaw dropping, but you can see as his role has increased with Michigan State, so has his production. This past seasons he averaged 23 minutes, scored 9.1 points, 3.7 assists, and 2 rebounds. He showed flashed last seaosn of being an efficient scorer, shooting 47% from the floor and 43% from long range. This past season, those numbers regressed a bit, shooting 37% from the floor and 33% from long range. However, his assist numbers went up to 3.7.

Holloman is going to start at point for NC State and is actually the type of PG that I think NC State fans have been longing for the past few seasons. This guy is a PG who can get into the lane and create havoc. He’s quick, fast, strong with the basketball and understands the position. He’s the closest thing to Markell Johnson that we’ve seen since Markell graduated in 2020. I’d say Markell Johnson was a little more crafty and slippery, while Holloman is a little stronger and more physical.

Johnson shot 49% from the floor and 42% from 3pt range as a junior, stats very close to what Holloman posted as a sophomore at Michigan State. Markell dished out 4.2 assists that year, while Holloman dished out 3.7 this past season, but only 2.4 as a sophomore.

I think NC State is getting a guy that fits this system and really can play the Markell Johnson PG role for the Pack, handing the ball, getting others involved, while scoring when needed.

Holloman was a 4 star recruit when he committed to Michigan State in 2022.

Huge pickup for Wade and company.
