According to reports, NC State legend Philip Rivers might be making an NFL comeback after being retired since the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Daniel Jones, the Colts’ starting quarterback, just tore his Achilles. Former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard is the backup in Indy, and he is week-to-week with a strained knee ligament.

With four games left, the Colts are looking for stability as they close out the 2025 regular season. Indianapolis is currently 8–5, trailing Jacksonville by one game in the AFC South.

This news breaks on Rivers’ 44th birthday. He hasn’t played in five seasons. Rivers has been the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama, since the 2021 season. Gunner, Philip’s son, currently plays quarterback for Rivers at St. Michael.

After playing his first 16 seasons with the Chargers, Rivers played his final season in the NFL with the Colts.

Rivers is an eight-time Pro Bowler. He currently ranks sixth all-time in NFL career passing touchdowns, eighth in passing yards, and ninth in passes completed.
