The College Football Transfer Portal window doesn’t officially open until January 2 (through the 16th), but that doesn’t mean players won’t announce their intentions to enter leading up to that date.

News just broke that NC State Offensive Lineman Val Erickson intends to enter the transfer portal.

Erickson spent his first two seasons at Missouri. He redshirted the 2022 season and didn’t see the field in 2023. He made the decision to transfer midway through the 2023 season and transferred to NC State, arriving in January of 2024.

Erickson played in seven games for the Wolfpack over the past two seasons, logging 110 snaps as a reserve this year.

It’s being reported that he has two years of eligibility remaining, but I don’t get it. He’s listed as a redshirt junior on the official roster. Erickson already used his redshirt season, failed to see the field in Year 2, and played seven games in each of the past two seasons. It would be one thing if he didn’t see the field in 2023 and received a medical redshirt, but that isn’t the case.

Whatever. If the reporting is correct, Erickson somehow was granted another year. What do I know.

Erickson is the first NC State player to enter the Portal.
