One of college basketball’s top statisticians, Evan Miyakawa, has NC State listed as one of the teams that have potential to make noise in March.

Miyakawa, along with Ken Pom and Bart Torvik have emerged over the past 10-15 years as the newest, and most accurate CBB predictors. Yes, better than Bracketologist Joe Lunardi and everyone you see making predictions on ESPN. In fact, the basis on almost all of those guys’ takes have a foundation in the data Miyakawa, Pom and Torvik put out.

What I’m getting at is, if you want to listen to anyone’s predictions, this is one of the three guys who isn’t just blowing smoke. They are charting progress.

What you see here is predicted efficiency on both ends of the floor based on current efficiency and team trajectory + schedule.

It’s great news to see Miyakawa have NC State plotted in the “Hit or Miss” section, which is defined as teams that have the potential to ‘make noise in March.’

That may be news to some who for some reason believed the Red Reckoning meant we were going to go undefeated and blow everyone out of the water, but to most watching, this is kind of where the eye test has put NC State this year. Elite potential, but just ‘good’ results. They obviously are still putting things together.

But what’s more interesting is the fact that Virginia is listed as having ‘FINAL FOUR POTENTIAL.’ Which should make you feel a little better about the Pack’s home loss to UVA. In fact, almost all of NC State’s losses are in the groups predicted to make the tournament.

– Virginia (Final Four Potential)
– Kansas (Final Four Potential)
– Auburn (Happy to be here)
– Seton Hall (Happy to be here)
– Texas (Happy to be here)

As you can see, NC State has played a very tough schedule and the fact that they are sitting at 11-5 should have you pretty bulllish on this team’s odds moving forward.
