PACK IN BLACK: NC State unveils their new black jerseys. Are they the best ones yet?

Will Wade recently announced that they are going to be wearing black jerseys today vs. Pitt.

Here is the quote from his radio show…

“Actually, we’re wearing black on Saturday. Did you know that? I think Pitt’s wearing some sort of alternative uniform. So we’re wearing black. Was I supposed to announce that or not? 

I just saw them today. I didn’t know what they even looked like. They have Tuffy on them.” 

The secret was already out, but now the actual visuals have dropped. Check them out…

I think they look good. But how do they rank against other black NC State jerseys over the years. We want your opinion!

NC State @ Clemson  (2020)

• NC State won this one 60-54 without Manny Bates (injured) thanks to a strong performance by DJ Funderburk, Devon Daniels and Markell Johnson.

Louisville “Blackout” Game (2016)

• In the 2015–16 season, NC State wore their black alternate jerseys during a blackout-themed game against Louisville at PNC Arena in early January 2016. This was promoted as a “Pack in Black” night with fans encouraged to wear black too. #16 beat NC State 77-74 in Raleigh.

Legends Classic vs. LSU (2015)

• NC State earned a hard-fought 83-72 overtime victory over LSU in the consolation game of the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, NY. Heralded LSU Freshman Ben Simmons was held to 4 points, but contributed 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Four of the Pack’s five starters scored in double figures, with Anthony “Cat” Barber adding 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.

NC State @ Duke – Feb 16, 2012

• NC State wore black uniforms in that road game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but things didn’t go so great. They were up 20, but lost by 5, 78-73 as Seth Curry went off in the 2nd half.

NC State vs. Maryland (2000)
I remember this game. I believe this was NC State’s first game in black. I also remember it was a year we were doing good, and going up against a ranked Maryland team. We got up by a lot, but fell apart after Thornton was called for a charge on a poster-dunk …and it wasn’t even close. This loss caused a long losing streak that upended the entire season. Thanks to James R Lawrence on X, for jogging my memory!

I think there may have been one or two other games with black jerseys that we couldn’t track down. Anyone got any info? There was this TJ Warrne game that’s out there somewhere…
