Even in a season-ending loss, Paul McNeil Jr. etched his name into NC State history.

Entering the Wolfpack’s NCAA Tournament matchup against Texas, the sophomore sharpshooter needed three made threes to tie the program’s single-season record of 105, set by DJ Horne two years ago.

All he had to do… was be himself.

Averaging 3.09 made threes per game, the math suggested he’d be right there.

And that’s exactly what he did.

P2 made 3 of his 8 three point attempts last night, tying the NC State record for three’s made in a single season.

NC State Single-Season Three-Point Leaders

1. Paul McNeil Jr. (2025-26) – 105
1. DJ Horne (2023-24) – 105
3. Scott Wood (2012-13) – 104
3. Rodney Monroe (1990-91) – 104
5. Terquavion Smith (2021-22) – 96
6. Scott Wood (2011-12) – 95

Built for This Role

From the moment Will Wade assembled this roster, one thing was clear: he wanted to find McNeil… and let it fly.

Wade made creating clean looks for P2 a priority all season long, and the volume reflects it.

  • 246 three-point attempts
  • 5th most in a single season in program history

But this wasn’t just volume shooting. This was precision.

Efficiency Meets Volume

McNeil Jr. didn’t just shoot a lot… he shot lights out.

  • 42.7% from three-point range
  • Best mark by a Wolfpack player since Scott Wood (44.1% in 2012-13)

That combination of high volume plus elite efficiency is what separates a good shooter from a program record-holder.

A Star Taking Shape

The leap was undeniable.

  • Freshman Year: 4.2 PPG
  • Sophomore Year: 13.8 PPG

What was once a role player has now become one of the most dangerous perimeter threats in the ACC, and he’s just getting started.
