Check out another great breakdown from Scout Team Sports, profiling NC State frontcourt commit, 6’8 Eemeli Yolaho from Washington State.

The video breaks down why Yolaho will be an elite floor spacer and stretch 4 for NC State. The real focus is on his excellent shooting (40% from three on over 125 attempts, including 43% on catch-and-shoot), That’s the third addition to next year’s roster that shoots over 39% from long range. Add in a 3 man who can fill it up and you’re looking at one of the most lethal 3-point attacks in the nation.

But that’s not all Yolaho can do. As STS mentions, he’s also 6’8, moves well, is thick, decently athletic, and can finish at the rim with both hands. Another plus is that he’s a low-usage, high-efficiency finisher who thrives on cuts, rolls, pick-and-roll actions, offensive rebounds, and dump-offs created by guards. He’s not going to create off the dribble, but NC State isn’t going to ask him to do that. He averaged  10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game at Washington State while shooting an efficient 70% at the rim (top 20% nationally) with strong touch and versatility.

I know we’ve compared him to Darrion Williams, who was a couple inches shorter, but had a similar frame and skill set. However, Williams struggled at the rim, shooting just 43% from inside the arc. That’s bad for a guard and putrid for a front-court big. Darrion did shoot a bunch off the dribble, but honestly, those were usually bad shots. Yolaho isn’t going to do that, and we won’t want him to. He’ll finish around the rim and knock down open 3s. He’ll hopefully be the type of player we were hoping Darrion Williams was going to be.

Yolaho is definitely a great scheme fit who can contribute meaningfully on both ends without disrupting the offense.
