According to reports, 2026 point guard Kingston Whitty (6’2”, 170 pounds) has committed to NC State.

Whitty becomes the first prep commitment of the Justin Gainey era.

From a recruiting standpoint, ESPN rates Whitty as a 4-star prospect, while 247Sports and Rivals list him as a 3-star. Both ESPN and Rivals rank him as the No. 7 overall player in North Carolina, with 247Sports placing him as the No. 24 point guard nationally in the 2026 class.

NC State hosted Whitty on a visit last week, and it’s clear the new staff made a strong impression.

Whitty had previously been committed to West Virginia before reopening his recruitment on April 9.

On the court, he put together a strong junior season at Christ School (Arden, NC), averaging 15.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game while shooting an efficient 51% from the field and 37% from three.

With his commitment, NC State secures its first high school building block under Gainey, a lead guard who brings scoring efficiency, playmaking, and in-state roots to the program.
