We exchanged texts with 2027 small forward Thomas Vickery (6’5”, 175 pounds), who confirmed he took an unofficial visit to NC State yesterday and answered a few questions about that visit.

Vickery originally received an offer from former head coach Will Wade back on September 25, and during his visit to Raleigh, Justin Gainey made it clear that the scholarship offer still on the table.

While he’s just a 3-star right now, it’s clear that high-level coaches realize those rankings aren’t keeping up. His offer list includes Virginia, Cal, Clemson, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and more. He’s a 6’5, well-built athlete who can shoot, handle, and finish above the rim. He’s a physical player who doesn’t shy away from contact. All of his attributes are well beyond his age, which is why you’re seeing top programs trying to get in early.

Now that you’re caught up on the situation. Here is what Thomas had to say…

1. What stood out most to you about the campus and atmosphere during this visit?
I really enjoyed the facilities and how big the campus is

2. How has your relationship with Coach Justin Gainey developed, especially since he took over at NC State?
I really like the way Coach Gainey coaches and the way he wants to play. He’s very good at connecting with you as a person as well.

3. What are you looking for in a college program as a 2027 recruit, and how does NC State fit into that picture right now?
I want a winning basketball culture, a good relationship with a coaching staff, and a good education. NC State is high on my list because of these, and even higher now with my relationship with Coach Gainey.

4. How do you see your game translating to the college level (like what type of player do you want to be), and how does that fit with what Coach Gainey is building?
I’m going to be a player who can shoot the ball at a very high level. I’m also a player who thrives in transition and uses my athleticism. This fits perfectly with the way Coach Gainey is going to conduct his offense.

5. You’re starting to get a lot of offers (including State’s). What’s the next step in your recruiting process? Do you have a timeline?
My next step is evaluating all of my options and seeing which school has the best plan for my development and goals. I don’t have a timeline at the moment.

Here are a few videos of what Vickery brings to the table…

Vickery is #3 on the black and green team (Myers Park).
