NC State Wolfpack men’s basketball has added another in-state guard to the roster.

Former Appalachian State Mountaineers men’s basketball guard Jacari Brim (6’2″/190) is transferring to NC State. Brim announced his commitment after taking a visit to Raleigh today.

Brim just wrapped up his freshman season at Appalachian State and now heads to Raleigh with intriguing long-term upside and one very notable piece of high school history attached to his name.

Freshman Season at App State

Brim appeared in 22 games for the Mountaineers this past season, averaging:

1.2 points
0.7 rebounds
0.7 assists

in 6.4 minutes per game.

He shot:

39.1% from the field
35.3% from three-point range

His best performance came against VU Lynchburg, where he exploded for:

20 points
8 assists
5 rebounds

while shooting:

7-of-9 from the field
4-of-5 from three

Recruiting Interest in the Portal

Back on April 24th, Tobias Bass of The Athletic reported Brim had drawn interest from:

James Madison
Cleveland State
Ball State
Milwaukee
Bethune-Cookman
Campbell
VMI
Queens

The Chris Paul Connection

Brim may have flown under the radar nationally coming out of high school (unrated & unranked), but his résumé at West Forsyth speaks for itself.

When he graduated, Brim finished as the school’s:

All-time leader in points
All-time leader in assists

And yes…

That means he broke records previously held by future NBA Hall of Famer Chris Paul.

That’s not a small accomplishment.

Dominant Senior Season

As a senior at West Forsyth, Brim averaged:

18.7 points
4.3 assists
3.9 rebounds
2.4 steals

while leading the Titans to a 26-4 record.

Despite being unrated by the major recruiting services, Brim clearly produced at a high level in North Carolina high school basketball.

NC State now adds another developmental backcourt piece with in-state roots and proven scoring instincts.

And if Brim eventually carves out a role in Raleigh, the “guy who broke Chris Paul’s records” storyline is going to get repeated approximately 47,000 times.
