Former NC State Wolfpack men’s basketball guard Ishua Benjamin is heading back to the sidelines.

Benjamin has officially been named the new head coach at West Cabarrus High School.

Previous Coaching Experience

Benjamin most recently served as the head coach at Cary Academy from 2020-24.

During his four seasons there, he compiled a 53-36 overall record

Now he takes over at West Cabarrus looking to continue building his coaching résumé in North Carolina high school basketball.

NC State Career

Before coaching, Benjamin carved out a highly productive career in Raleigh from 1994-98.

Across his four seasons with the Wolfpack, he averaged:

10.7 points
3.7 assists
2.9 rebounds
1.7 steals

Back in 1995, Benjamin earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team.

Still All Over the Record Book

Benjamin remains one of the most accomplished playmakers in NC State history.

Career Rankings

435 assists → 7th in school history
195 steals → 4th in school history

And he also owns one of the coolest statistical records in the Wolfpack record book.

On December 18th, 1997 against Sam Houston Bearkats men’s basketball, Benjamin recorded 15 assists and 0 turnovers

That remains the most assists in a single game without committing a turnover in NC State history.

Point guard purists are shedding tears somewhere reading that stat line.

Team Captain

Benjamin also served as a team captain during the 1997-98 season alongside fellow Wolfpack standout C.C. Harrison.

Benjamin now joins the growing list of former Wolfpack players continuing to make an impact in the coaching world across North Carolina basketball.
