3-Star Quarterback Ty Evans Commits to NC State!

Published

on

NC State finally got their quarterback for the 2019 recruiting class.

3-Star Ty Evans (6’2″/192) decommitted from Colorado today, and committed to NC State after taking his official visit to Raleigh this past weekend.

Evans originally committed to Arkansas on July 18th of last year, but then decommitted on December 13th after Bret Bielema was fired as the Razorbacks head coach. It’s worth noting that NC State offered Evans on the day he decommitted from Arkansas.

One month later, Evans committed to Colorado on January 15th.

In what have must felt like deja vu, Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre was fired on November 18th, and most importantly, quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper didn’t stay in Boulder.

“I’ll be a Buff fan until I die, and I appreciate everything they’ve done for me, and all of the support,” Evans said Monday. “I know a lot of people will be upset and won’t be happy with my decision but at the end of the day, they don’t have to go to the 6 a.m. workouts for four years, they don’t have to live on the campus and sit in the locker room after you lose a game. That’s my life and I am the one walking this path.” (Link)

In the end, what Dave Doeren is building at NC State, and the stability of the program, were enough for him to decide to move across the country.

“Choosing NC state is going to be hard. It’s going to be difficult leaving my family because I am close with them but that’s going to force me to become a lot more grown up, and mature.”

“It really just came down the that stability at NC state,” Ty Evans said. “Coach Doeren has a long contract and he’s building a lake house out there which is a great sign that he’s not going anywhere. He wants to win championships there and I think that’s someone I can play under.” (Link)

Evans led Palmer Ridge to 2 consecutive 3A state championships, and was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Colorado as a Junior. He also was one of the 12 quarterbacks that made it to the prestigious Elite 11 Camp this summer. As a Senior, Evans threw for 2,665 yards and 33 touchdowns (14 interceptions). He also rushed for 355 yards and 11 touchdowns.

247Sports ranks Evans as the #11 Pro Style Quarterback in the 2019 class, and Rivals ranks him as the #1 player in the state of Colorado. He chose to run with the Wolfpack over offers from Alabama, Michigan, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Ole Miss and others.

Evans will join a stacked, but unexperienced, quarterback room next year, joining former 4-Star prospect Matt McKay (will be a Redshirt Sophomore), former 4-Star prospect Bailey Hockman (will be a Redshirt Sophomore) and former 4-Star prospect Devin Leary (will be a Redshirt Freshman).

Matthew is Publisher and Co-Owner of Pack Insider. He is also the Lead Pastor of The Point Church in Cary, NC.

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

4-Star Safety Jontae Gilbert Has Locked in an Official Visit to NC State

Published

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
