I am not sure if many are aware that Dennis Smith Jr is doing a blog series with USA Today High School Sports. Here are some excerpts from his latest entry on July 28th:
“Right now it’s down to six, in no particular order: Kentucky, Duke, Louisville, N.C. State, Wake Forest and North Carolina.”
“The latest offer was from Kentucky and, I’ll be honest, it was surprising. I was shocked by it because Coach Cal had watched me a couple of times before then; he watched me with my man John Wall in Atlanta at adidas and had another coach watch me at Myrtle Beach and the offer came.”
“ A lot of you that read my blog already know that I love football and know that I’ve been getting recruiting letters for football for a while now. That’s nothing new. Football is just as fun as basketball to me.”
“I’ve heard from Tennessee, Arizona State, Florida State, Stanford, UNC, N.C. State and Wake Forest for football.”
“I definitely wanna shoutout my man Jayson Tatum for committing to Duke! That’s a great look for him. I was watching the game when he committed and I was excited for him.
Of course y’all know that I’ve talked in my blog about me, Jay and Harry (Giles) teaming up in college and that hasn’t changed. It’s definitely something that we all still talk about and I’d say there’s still a great chance of it.
At the end of the day, I’ve gotta do what’s best for me, but, again, it’s something we still all talk about and it’s definitely the most serious package deal I have with anyone in my class.”
If you want to read his entry in its’ entirety you can find it on USA Today.
PackJunky Wolfer96 I hope you’re right because he is a talent. But his talk about playing FB and playing on the same team as his buddies has me concerned.
Wolfer96 We are his leader… no question. Duke’s top PG priority is Frank Jackson and they are probably his leader. If/when he chooses Duke, DSJ is no longer an option for Duke. They 2 top PGs cannot coexiist on the same team. We lead for DSJ, all the top reliable sources say that. He is just trying to maintain some objectivity and open mindedness in this process.
I’ve only seen this kid play in 1 game but you could see immediately that he was good. Having said that, if I’m reading his comments right it seems he already has 1 foot in the door at duke since his buddy already joined. May be time State moved on to the next guy on the recruitment list.
Going for top 10 guys is always a gamble and in the process we could lose out on that top 60 guy that would have developed into a great player over a 4 season career.
