NC State QB commit Leary shattering state records

Published

on

Devin Leary is a 2018 quarterback committed to NC State. If you haven’t heard of him by now, you really should start paying attention. He is a New Jersey native who is on the cusp of shattering some state records.

Leary is the reigning state player of the year, leading his team to a 12-0 record while putting up video game numbers. His 3,688 yards and 48TDs which were both all-time state records. So what can he do for an encore? How about leave a legacy that will likely be untouched for decades. He is only 26 TDs away from 100 and 3,191yds away from 10,000. He could also three-peat the sectional championships in his 3rd year as a starter (he’d be the first to do that since 1991).

With eye-popping stats to his name already, the next step for Leary is to become a true leader in the huddle.

“This year is a lot different, I have to be a leader,” said Leary. “I have to show by example everything I do. Coach was telling me yesterday even if I’m a little sore or have a bad day, I have to keep pushing and set an example. Everybody is looking up to me to see what I do next. If I can lead this team, I think it will be in really good hands. (NJ.com)”

The important takeaway here for Wolfpack fans is that you are looking at a kid who has the talent and could end up ready to lead on day 1 in Raleigh. With Finley ready to graduate, Leary would likely be next in line if all goes according to plan. So far, so good and he’s saying all the right things that would make you believe he’ll be ready.

“Everything I’ve won, I’m doing it for the team, the program and Coach Hinson,” said Leary. ‘I like to see myself as a selfless player. As a senior class, this is our last year. You want to leave a legacy every practice, every down to help out the team. I do as much as I can every day and hope it pays off in the end. (NJ.com)”

We’ll be keeping close tabs on Leary week by week, bringing you his stats and updates on his quest for 10,000 yds and 100 TDs.
