UNC LB Commit Payton Wilson Taking Official Visit to NC State

Published

on

4-Star 2018 Linebacker Payton Wilson is still committed to UNC, but that isn’t stopping him from taking an official visit to NC State this weeekend for the Wolfpack’s homecoming matchup against the #6 Clemson Tigers. Wilson confirmed with us that he was taking the visit, and he also confirmed the bad news that he did in fact tear his ACL this past Friday. He will obviously miss the remainder of the season.

Wilson committed to UNC on May 1st, but the NC State coaches and Wilson have been in contact quite a bit recently. He unofficially visited NC State earlier this season as well, taking in the Wolfpack’s victory over Syracuse. This was the beginning of the raising of many eyebrows. On October 6th, in a recruiting showdown, head coach Dave Doeren and defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable were on the sidelines with UNC head coach Larry Fedora and another Tar Heel assistant.

Let me just say this, I don’t know if NC State can flip Wilson’s commitment, but I can promise you they think they have a chance, or they wouldn’t be sending Doeren out on a Friday night.

Through 8 games this season, Wilson racked up 103 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 10 sacks for Orange High School (Hillsborough, NC).
