On Saturday, NC State Cornerbacks coach George Barlow was on the mic. Here’s what he had to say in BULLETED form.

  • Have a lot of guys who haven’t had a whole lot of playing time. Junior Nick McCloud is the only one who has had playing time. Has to do everything he can to accelerating the learning process for these guys. It’s coaching.
  • Have more depth at the position, and these are talented young players. We’ve had talent before, but not a lot of depth. All these guys see the guy next to them. Competition has accelerated the learning process within the group.
  • Have restructured practice where younger/developmental players get extra time with the coaches at the end of practice.
  • Expects Nick McCloud to elevate his game in practice. Not only is he doing all of the things on and off of the field to improve as a player, but he’s embraced the role as a leader. He’s bringing the younger guys along, and has accelerated their learning process as much as anything else.
  • RS SR Maurice Trowell has moved from wide receiver to cornerback. He has all of the skillset. He can run. He’s a smart football player. He has the want-to. The thing that’s going to give him the chance to play for us, is that he wanted to do this. He wanted to do whatever it took to get on the field. Not only has he embraced coverage, but he’s also embracing the physical aspect of the position as well.
  • RS JR Vernon Grier is yet another wide receiver converted to cornerback.
