Patriots Place Franchise Tag on Joe Thuney

The New England Patriots have placed the franchise tag on former NC State All-American Offensive Lineman Joe Thuney, which will pay him $14.78 million in 2020.

For perspective, Thuney’s base salary was right under $2 million in 2019.

Thuney was about to become a hot commodity on the Free Agency Market in a few days. Last season, Thuney ranked 2nd in the NFL among Guards at Pass Block Win Rate, earning 2nd Team All-Pro honors.

Thuney is only the 2nd former Offensive Lineman in NC State history to earn All Pro honors, joining Jim Ritcher who did so three times (1986, 1988, 1990)

Since being drafted by New England in the 3rd round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Thuney has started every possible game for the Pats.
