According to Joe Giglio, NC State has hired Oklahoma City Thunder Scout Andrew Slater to be their General Manager for Men’s Basketball.

The arrival of incoming Head Coach Will Wade was delayed yesterday when he led McNeese St. to their first NCAA Tournament victory in school history, defeating Clemson 69-67.

NC State isn’t playing any games when it comes to their Men’s Basketball program. They are operating with a sense of urgency.

With the Cowboys set to play Purdue at 12:10 PM tomorrow in the second round, a victory could delay his arrival even more.

The Transfer Portal is set to open on Monday, and the Wolfpack needs boots on the ground.

Now they have some of the best boots in the business.

Slater was hired by the Oklahoma City Thunder in December of 2023, after spending the past decade as one of the most prominent recruiting and scouting analysts nationally, operating independently, and contributing to the most significant national recruiting databases. There aren’t many people as familiar with the breadth of college basketball, high school basketball, and the AAU circuit as Slater.

NC State is playing catch-up by hiring a General Manager, but they are catching up in a big way. In the wild world of NIL and with revenue sharing right around the corner, numerous ACC schools and many others across the nation have hired General Managers. If college programs are going to have paid players, they need to be run like professional basketball teams.

Numerous other ACC schools have already hired General Managers. Back in 2022, Duke hired Rachel Baker as their General Manager. Last summer, Syracuse hired Alex Kline. In February, Hubert Davis hired Jim Tanner to be the General Manager for the Tar Heels.

If this report comes to fruition, then there’s no question Will Wade is heading to Raleigh. Their connections run deep, and the Pack wouldn’t make this move if Wade wasn’t a lock.

If this report comes to fruition, the combination of Wade and Slater could be a force to reckon with in the ACC, and for that matter, on a national scale.
